Welcome to the Science of Health. A short course for workplaces delivered by Exercise Physiologist, and Educator Dr. Tony Boutagy.

This course translates the latest research into clear and practical advice to help you understand all aspects of exercise and the vital role it plays in your health as you age.

You'll learn important exercise concepts and be given easy to follow workout programs to implement regular exercise into your routine for better health.

Who Is This Course For?

If you’re interested in understanding more about the role of exercise in improving health and performance, this course is for you. We can deliver it as a standalone activity or as part of a broader, integrated wellbeing program.

Dr Tony Boutagy

Dr Tony Boutagy has been working in the health and fitness industry since 1995. He has a PhD in exercise and sports science from Charles Darwin University. Having conducted over 50,000 training sessions in his career he is regarded as one of the premier Exercise Physiologists and Educators in the country. Tony has developed this program to provide you with access to the evidence, advice and tools to help you improve your health.

Dr Kieron Rooney

Kieron is a nationally recognised expert in nutrition research and translation into policy and practice. To date, his novel research has focussed on how high sugar and/or high fat diets impact metabolic health.

Kieron helped develop this program by applying his extensive knowledge in nutrition to give you the practical tools you need to understand food, it's place in society and how to eat right for better health.

Simone Chartres

Simone is part of our expert team to support you as you seek to improve your health and wellbeing. She is an endorsed Clinical Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Simone has extensive clinical experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of anxiety disorders, mood disorders, substance use disorders, and eating disorders, and focuses on the benefits of exercise and nutrition as part of her treatment approach.

This course is broken down into six easily digestible chapters you can complete in your own time. Each chapter has a corresponding activity to complete to help you put your knowledge into practice.

Introduction

Get to know your program leader Dr. Tony Boutagy, and his extensive background in exercise physiology and as a health coach. Tony also takes you through an overview of what you can expect throughout the course.

Quick Wins & Blockers

Many of us know what a healthy diet or exercise plan looks like but most people struggle to implement change into our everyday life. In this chapter, Tony takes you through some simple changes you can make that will contribute to a healthier and happier lifestyle. He also reveals common blockers that could be hindering your health journey and stopping you from making adequate changes to both your diet and exercise.

Healthy Ageing

Ever wondered what the secret is to a long and healthy life? Find out what steps you should be taking now to maintain a healthy body and mind in the future.

Strength

At every stage of your life how strong you are is a determinant of how long you live and the quality of your life as you age. In this chapter, we uncover the fundamentals of strength training, why it's good for our overall fitness and wellbeing, and how to integrate it into your training regime.
